10:00 – 11:00 A Lap Around Azure

Azure can be overwhelming. In order to get your bearings and get an idea of the areas covered by Azure, Microsoft Regional Director Markus Egger will give attendees a tour of the Azure web portals and its various features with emphasis on the most important aspects. This session sets the stage to give attendees an understanding of Azure, how to navigate it and how to take advantage of this unique platform and eco-system. As attendees take the tour new and exciting business opportunities unique to Azure which could represent new and recurring revenue streams for developers are highlighted and discussed. Attendees will learn how to partner with Microsoft and Azure resellers to use Azure to stay relevant and to grow in today’s world.

11:00 – 11:15 BREAK
11:15 – 12:30 Data in Azure

All but a few modern applications use data of some sort and the Microsoft Azure Cloud offers a variety of solutions for handling it, ranging from simple file storage to high performance relational databases to new and highly specialized ways to store, manage and consume non-traditional types of data such as un-structured data and enormous non-relational data sets (Big Data). What options are available? What is each option suited to and capable of? And how are the most common options for line-of-business applications different from the familiar on-premises solutions developers already know?

In this session, Mike Yeager shows attendees what Azure offers, how to navigate the data offerings in Azure and what the most common scenarios are. Attendees will become familiar with the data and storage options available to them in Microsoft’s Cloud and explore an example of the most common scenario built with Azure SQL Database and Azure Blob Storage. They’ll learn about the tools required, the shortcuts available and the skills needed to take advantage of this new and exciting way to work with data in modern software solutions. In addition, attendees will learn about Azure Search, an advanced, ranked, full-text search platform.

12:30 – 13:30 Lunch
13:30 – 14:45 Services, Web Apps and DevOps in Azure

Services and Micro Services are an integral part of modern application development, so how are services hosted in Azure different from those hosted in your own data center and what options are available to you? How do REST, WebAPI, WCF and other technologies fit in? How does a service in Azure talk to data? How do you get your services into Azure? How can you secure them? How is web site hosting different from service hosting? Speaking of web sites, am I limited to ASP.NET on Azure or can I run PHP as well? How can services and web sites be scaled up (and down) and what is this all going to cost? How do I monitor and analyze my services and web apps?

This session will examine web sites in Azure as well as the two main options for hosting services in Azure, Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Microsoft’s implementation of REST services (WebAPI) plus vNext, Microsoft’s nascent web site and services technology. Attendees will learn the pros and cons of each technology, how to implement and secure them in Azure and, most importantly, see examples of services that can be built once and exposed in any or all of the hosting options. This session will focus not on how to build web applications and services, but rather, how Azure can enhance them. Azure provides a world-class hosting environment with authentication, scalability, load balancing, content delivery (CDN), security and all of the other features expected of a modern hosting solution. In addition, the session will explore DevOps with features like Application Insights for monitoring, managing and maintaining applications. Attendees will learn how to deal with error reporting, system logging and other features critical to a successful rollout and maintaining a robust modern system.

14:45 – 15:00 BREAK
15:00 – 16:45 Machine Learning, Notifications, Containers, Scheduler & More Unique Services, Values and Features in Azure

The Azure platform along with Microsoft’s Azure Partners offer developers an incredible array of features, services and value-adds. In this session attendees will be exposed to a sampling of some of the most interesting we’ve come across including: Notifications, Machine Learning, Big Data, Containers, Scheduler, Media Encoding and Streaming, Content Delivery, Reddis Cache, Event Hubs, Stream Analytics, Hybrid Clouds and interesting data available in the Data Marketplace.

16:45 – 17:00 Wrap-Up and Q&A

The day will wrap up with a question and answer session to make sure that all of your questions and concerns are addressed.
